Paint arrestor filter media is used in the exhaust path of a spray booth to help manage airborne overspray before exhaust air reaches fans, ductwork or downstream treatment equipment. It should be chosen as part of the complete booth system, not as an isolated consumable.
What paint arrestor media does
During spray application, not all coating material reaches the workpiece. Some particles remain in the air stream and travel toward the exhaust section. Paint arrestor media is positioned in that path to collect overspray and support cleaner operation of the exhaust system.
Paint arrestor media may be supplied as a roll, pad, cut sheet or a format prepared for a particular holding frame. The appropriate format depends on the exhaust chamber, support grid and how the maintenance team changes the media.
Start with the actual coating process
Useful selection information includes the coating material, spraying method, production volume, and part geometry. Manual, automatic, and robotic operations can create different overspray conditions. A booth used to coat large parts may load the exhaust filter bank differently from a high-volume line that coats small components.
Identify the filter position clearly. Intake and ceiling media condition incoming air; paint arrestor media is selected according to expected overspray loading in the exhaust section. They are not interchangeable products.
What to compare before buying
- Installation method: Confirm the roll, sheet, panel, or custom-cut requirement together with the holding-frame dimensions.
- Media construction: Discuss fiber structure, handling characteristics, and suitability for the coating process.
- System condition: Review the exhaust fan, ductwork, filter area, and maintenance plan together with the media.
- Supply format: Confirm roll width, cut-piece format, packaging, storage conditions, and replacement schedule.
Installation, maintenance and disposal
The media should be secured so the airflow passes through the intended filtering area without obvious bypass gaps. Check holding frames, support grids and access doors before each replacement. Replacement timing should follow the booth operator's maintenance procedure, visual inspection, exhaust performance and any available pressure monitoring.
Used exhaust media may contain coating residue. The facility should follow its own local handling and disposal procedure for the material collected from the booth.
Common purchasing mistakes
Buying only by color, thickness, or an old product nickname can create a poor match. Those details help identify a product, but they do not define the real application. It is also a mistake to request a quote without booth dimensions or photos of the exhaust chamber and current media.

For a useful quote, send the booth type, installation position, filter dimensions, desired format, coating material, application method, clear photos, and estimated order quantity. An existing sample or old part number can also help establish a starting point.
